Walking the Booti Track, Booti Booti National Park
Just a five-minute drive from Mobys, the Booti Track is an 8km loop through Booti Booti National Park – rainforest, coastal bushland, big ocean views and the quiet shores of Wallis Lake, all in one walk. Set aside two to three hours and make a morning of it.
What the walk is like
The track starts at Elizabeth Beach and climbs gradually to a lookout over Charlotte Headland and Shelly Beach, then winds above the coastline, drops through sheltered rainforest, and finishes along the edge of Wallis Lake. Three separate track sections joined into one loop, so the scenery keeps changing rather than settling into the same view for two hours.
It’s graded moderate – Grade 3 – which means some steps, a few steep sections and uneven ground in places. Most reasonably active families will manage it comfortably, though it’s not a pram walk. Proper shoes rather than thongs.
Keep an eye out for native birdlife along the way, and through winter you’ll often spot whales tracking north along the coast. Binoculars are worth the pack space.

The details
- Distance: 8km loop
- Time: 2–3 hours
- Grade: 3 — moderate
- Starts at: Elizabeth Beach (also accessible from The Ruins campground and Sunset picnic area on The Lakes Way)
- Bring: drinking water, hat, sunscreen, decent walking shoes
Check the NSW National Parks website for any track closures before you head off.
Making a day of it
There’s swimming and picnicking along the route, so there’s no need to rush it. Elizabeth Beach is a good spot to cool off at the end, and Seven Mile Beach sits at the northern end of the park if you’d rather stretch the day out further.
Go early if you can – the climb is more pleasant before the heat, and the light over Wallis Lake in the morning is worth the alarm.

Staying nearby
Mobys Beachside Retreat sits just five minutes away at Boomerang Beach, with Blueys Beach an easy walk in the other direction. Our one, two and three-bedroom self-contained beach houses make an easy base for exploring the whole stretch – and after 8km, the heated pool and a table at Sips @ Mobys go down well.
